Do you need some ideas and inspiration for preparing baby shower prizes?

When it comes to baby showers, I am all about THEME!

Why? Because having a theme means a lot of the planning work is done for you. Without a theme, each step (decorating, menu selection, and favor selection) becomes a chore. Baby shower prizes are no different.

It's best not to give favors as prizes. A favor is a favor, meant for all as a thank you for attending the party, and also for the generous gift they probably gave. Prizes can be fun little trinkets handed out to winners at the end of a baby shower game. Therefore, you don't need as many, as they are not for everyone. Prizes can be dependent on the sort of baby shower games you're playing.

It's a good idea to set a budget for the baby shower prizes. You don't want to get carried away, and there's no point feeling guilty or go into debt after doing such a big favor as throwing a baby shower for a friend or relative. If money isn't an issue, then prizes can be more expensive. Below I provide suggestions for both low and high budget prize items.

Most women appreciate lip balms, scented candles, powder, bath salts, lotions, soaps and other bath and beauty items such as these as a prize. To save money, you could buy some items in bulk and package them separately as prizes. For example, large boxes of bath beads can be packaged into small quantities in nice wrapping, baggies or other containers.

Small bottles of bubbles can be customized with labels. Place an image of the mother's ultrasound, a picture of the family, the name of the future baby, or other meaningful labels on the bottle. Picture frames are always appreciated, needed and useful. Personalize these baby shower prizes with a picture of the ultrasound or a family photo.

Food, especially nice food, well presented, is always a winner - for a winner! Chocolates and sweets rarely go uneaten. Hand out individual boxes of chocolates or wrap small bags of Hershey's Kisses in nice paper or baggies. Chocolate coins for good luck in little net bags are also fun. Gourmet tea or coffee go down very well, look fancy as they often have nice packaging, and don't cost a fortune. It's probably best to shy away from alcohol as a gift, since Mommy can't drink.

If money is no problem, gift certificates make exciting gifts and baby shower prizes. Check out what's available in local restaurants, movie theatres and shops. If you have many out of town guests at the baby shower, consider big brand and chain store gift certificates - for example Macy's, TGIFriday's, Applebee's, and other chain establishments. Alternatively, play it safe with Amazon.com or gift certificates for online shopping experiences people can have anywhere in the U.S., or even the world.

Other pricier baby shower prizes can include jewelry (this can be an inexpensive option, too, but stay away from stud earrings with ear posts that may be reactive). While simple gold or silver jewelry can be lovely, jewelry is a very personal gift and people may not like to wear the look you choose. Only choose this option if you know the guests well.
