Useful Resourcescoming soon...One scenario that you might encounter which could be tricky is if you are having an adults-only party and you want to ensure that people don't bring their children to the event. This can be tricky because you don't want to come right out and say "no children", but you want to word the invitation in a way that people understand that children would not necessarily be appropriate. One way of doing this is to simply have the party later in the evening or at a restaurant that is not child-friendly. However, if you still need to find the right birthday invitation wording, then you might want to consider adding that it is an "adults only" event. In addition, when addressing the invitation, try addressing it to "Mr. & Mrs.", without including "and family" or the children's names on the envelope. On the other hand, if children are welcomed to the party, then feel free to add that in the invitation itself. Somewhere near the bottom of the invitation, it is perfectly acceptable to include that "children are welcomed" or that it is okay to "bring the entire family." Sometimes, people assume that their children are not invited, so clarifying this in the birthday invitation wording can be helpful. When sending out birthday invitations for young children, the simpler the wording is kept, the better. Although you can assume that parents are going to be reading the invitation, too, you should expect that the children are going to read it first. Therefore, keeping the birthday invitation wording limited to the place, time, and date is sufficient. If you need to add directions, then consider doing that on a separate piece of paper. Of course, if you are having a birthday party with any kind of theme or activity, then you might have to include other kinds of instructions in your birthday invitation wordings. For example, for a swimming pool party, you will want to instruct your guests to bring their swimsuits. For an overnight party, make sure they know to bring their sleeping bags. You can even have interactive birthday cards, which can be a lot of fun. One idea is to include a blank card in which guests are instructed to write out their favorite memories of the birthday person. These can then be read aloud during the party itself. Lastly, a lot of people like to include poems, scriptures, or quotes in the birthday invitation wording. For some parties, especially those that are celebrating milestones, these can be very appropriate. However, you should definitely keep the type of party that you are having in mind, as well as the personality of the guest and the age that they are turning.
