Useful ResourcesWhether you are planning a full dinner or simple finger foods, the right appetizers will make or break your gathering. Here are some great Christmas party appetizer recipes that are sure to please your guests. A cheese ball is an all-time favorite appetizer to serve either as a starter course for your dinner or as part of your finger foods. For this, you will need one small onion (finely chopped), 2 tablespoons Worchester sauce, one 10 ounce jar dried beef (finely chopped) and two 8 ounce packages of cream cheese. Combine all ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Shape into a ball and refrigerate. For best results, make the ball a day ahead (this will allow the flavors to blend). To serve, place in the center of a platter and surround with a circle of different flavored crackers. Another great Christmas party appetizer recipe is homemade cheese straws. For this recipe, you will need the following: 14 tablespoons butter (softened to room temperature), 3 cups cheddar cheese (you can use either sharp or mild or a combination of the two - or you can use your favorite cheeses if you are not a fan of cheddar), 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour, 1/8 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (you can use more or less depending on how hot you want your cheese straws - if you want mild cheese straws, you can leave the pepper out), 1 teaspoon Worchester sauce. To prepare this Christmas party appetizer recipe, first blend the butter and cheese in a food processor, add remaining ingredients and blend thoroughly. Wrap mixture in plastic and chill for one hour. Take chilled dough and roll out on a lightly floured surface. Roll dough out and cut into 1/2 inch strips. Twist each strip slightly and place on an un-greased baking sheet. Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. These can be served either warm or cool. Another wonderful appetizer for your Christmas party is olive cheese balls. For this Christmas party appetizer recipe, you will need: 2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded), 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour, 1/2 cup melted butter or margarine, and a jar of green olives (pitted and stuffed with pimentos). Mix flour and cheese in a medium sized bowl. Add melted butter and work into a dough with your hands. Drain your olives and place in small bowl to the side. Taking your olives, wrap each one individually in some of your dough until the olive is completely covered. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes or until golden brown. These are best served warm. Spinach artichoke dip is another of the great Christmas party appetizer recipes that you can serve. For this, you will need the following: one package frozen spinach (thawed with the moisture squeezed out), one large carton sour cream, one package Knorr's vegetable dip mix, one small jar artichoke hearts (drained), and one small can water chestnuts (drained and finely chopped). Mix vegetable dip mix in sour cream and blend thoroughly. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Chill for at least one hour before serving. This can be served with crackers or toasted bread squares or pita chips. When planning your Christmas party menu, don't forget that the appetizers can be the most important part of your gathering. These are just a few of the hundreds of Christmas party appetizer recipes you can choose from to make your holiday gathering a success.
