Useful ResourcesIt was first published in 1823 and is generally attributed to Clement Clarke Moore, although it is also been said that it was written by Henry Livingston, Jr. It consists of 14 verses but the most popular is the first verse:
"Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
It's amazing to think that even after almost 200 years, this verse is still quoted every year and read to children everywhere.
Here's another vintage Christmas verse by Edgar Guest, first published in the Detroit Free Press in the early 1900's.

Some people simply like to insert a Christmas verse into their family Christmas letters, such as this one by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
"I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Or choose this more modern version by Carolyn Wells:
"I love the Christmas-tide, and yet,
And yet another Christmas verse by Ella Wheeler Wilcox:
"When Christmas bells are swinging above the fields of snow, we hear sweet voices ringing from lands of long ago, and etched on vacant places are half-forgotten faces of friends we used to cherish, and loves we used to know."
