Halloween Decorating Ideas - Steps and Instructions for a Scarecrow DecorationAre you seeking inspiration for Halloween decorating ideas? Halloween can be a fun-filled time for you and your family. It is a wonderful opportunity for you to do some creative activities with your children. Here are some fun activities you can do to decorate for Halloween. As part of Halloween decorating ideas, you may want to build a scarecrow for your front lawn. A scarecrow is just a few old clothes away, and is a great way for you and your children to have a good time. You will need the following items for your scarecrow: an old pair of pants, one long sleeved shirt, one white t-shirt, a hat, an 8 inch Styrofoam ball (available at most craft stores), a ruler, magic markers, a skein of yarn, 6-8 feet of rope, a glue gun, gloves, shoes, a 12 inch in length slim wooden rod, scissors and leaves. First, you need to rake the leaves in your yard into a big pile. This can also be a fun activity for you and your children. Next, cut two 6 inch lengths of rope and tie the ends of the pants legs closed with the rope. Now take leaves from your pile and stuff the pants. Make sure you leave room at the top of the pants for the shirt. Push the ends of the pants into the shoes - you may need to use some of your rope to secure the shoes to the pants. Next, cut two 6 inch lengths from your rope and use it to tie up the ends of the arms of the long sleeved shirt. Cut another 6 inch length from your rope and use it to tie up the bottom of the shirt. A shirt without buttons works best. Now take more leaves from your pile and stuff the shirt as tightly as you want. Once this is done, place the shirt in the top of the pants. Cut enough rope to fashion a belt. You want to make sure that when you tie off the scarecrow's belt, you are tying up part of the "stomach." This will help keep your scarecrow from coming apart. Now, for this Halloween decorating idea, you are ready to make your scarecrow's hands. Take leaves and stuff the gloves until they are stiff. Cut two 6 inch lengths of rope and use them to tie the hands onto your scarecrow. You now have the majority of your scarecrow completed and are ready to fashion the head. Push the wooden rod approximately 5 inches into the Styrofoam ball (leaving approximately 7 inches protruding from the bottom. Now, take your plain white t-shirt and cut enough fabric from the shirt to cover the Styrofoam ball completely (you will use rope to secure the cloth to the wooden rod at the bottom of the ball). Using your magic markers (make sure they are waterproof since your scarecrow will likely stay outdoors), draw the scarecrow's face on the cloth covering the ball - this is a fun part of Halloween decorating ideas! Using your glue gun and your yarn, attach "hair" to the crown of your scarecrow (you may use any color yarn you wish). Take the head and drive the wooden rod down into the leaves in the shirt. Place the hat on the top of your scarecrow's head. There, your scarecrow Halloween decorating idea is done! Determining the best place for your scarecrow can also be an exercise in creativity. You can place it on a wooden stake, sitting in a lawn chair or deck chair, or you can attach it to a tree in your front yard. No matter where you decide to place your scarecrow, it will be a delightful addition to your Halloween decorating ideas and decorations.
