To make a homemade fruit fly trap using vinegar, you need a sheet of paper, a one quart mason jar, apple cider vinegar, and a roll of 1 inch transparent tape. The following is one method to make a homemade fruit fly trap using vinegar:

• Place a small plate on your sheet of paper and trace its outline with a pencil. Cut the paper circle and mark the center with a small dot. Cut straight from one side of the circle to the center. Roll the cut paper into a cone and cut about 1/2 inch from the tip of the cone.
  
  
• Next, place 1/2 inch of apple cider vinegar in the quart mason jar. Place the cone, point side down, in the mouth of the jar and seal the space between the jar and cone with some tape.
  
  
• Strategically place your new fruit fly trap where fruit flies are found. You can create as many traps as you need, placing them in assorted places where fruit flies can be found in your home. You should change the vinegar at least once a month to ensure that your 'trap' continues to perform well.

How to Make a Homemade Fruit Fly Trap Using Plastic Bottles

This is a great way to reuse some of those plastic bottles you have in your recycle bin, as well as another great 'trap' idea to rid your home of the dreaded fruit fly.

• Rinse out a 2 liter plastic bottle with a screw on lid.
  
  
• Take a razor knife or scissor and cut around the bottle to separate into two pieces.
  
  
• Remove the bottle cap and invert the separated top portion that looks like a funnel upside down into the bottom portion of the plastic bottle.
  
  
• Use duct tape to secure the funnel to the bottom portion of the bottle.
  
  
• Make a hole on each side of the funnel top with a knife and then thread a piece of string through these holes. This will enable you to hang your new trap.
  
  
• Carefully add fly bait granules into the bottle.
  
  
• Hang the trap in any area that is frequented by fruit flies.
  
  
• Sit back and watch your new trap do its job.
  
  
• Make sure to clean and refill the bottle regularly.

How to Make a Fruit Fly Trap Using Paper

Making a homemade fruit fly trap using paper is very easy. Below are some simple directions to make this effective trap.

• Use any jar that you have handy and add a couple of small pieces of cut up fruit to the jar.
  
  
• Place the cone into the jar.
  
  
• Secure the cone to the jar with tape and place the jar wherever you need to control the fruit flies.
  
  
• Clean the jar and replace the fruit regularly.
