There are a number of preschool Halloween games that you can organize so your toddler and his or her friends can have a fun time. One favorite game for younger children is a game called "pass the pumpkin". To play, have all the children sit in a circle. Explain to the children that you are going to play some music and that they are to keep passing the pumpkin to the child next to them until the music stops. When the music stops, the person holding the pumpkin has to leave the circle. Make sure that each child that has to leave the circle is given a treat or reward for participating. Keep playing the music until there is only one child left from the circle. Another favorite preschool Halloween game is "pin the nose on the Jack-o-lantern". Take some orange paper and cut out a pumpkin shape. Using a black marker, draw eyes and a mouth on the pumpkin, leaving the nose area clear. Give each child a red triangle with his or her name written on one side and tape on the other side. Blindfold each child and let them take turns pinning the nose on the pumpkin. Remember to give each child a treat or reward for playing. The one who gets the nose the closest gets an extra treat for being the winner. Another fun activity is a variation of the classic Easter egg hunt. Instead of eggs, however, you have the party goers hunting witch's hats. Take black construction paper and cut out several witch hat shapes. Using a different color paper, cut out two or three other witch hat shapes. Hide the hats in various places around the room or playground and tell the children to hunt for the hats. The child with the most hats wins a special prize. The child or children who find the different colored hats will win a bonus prize. As with all your preschool Halloween games, however, make sure that all the children are given a reward for participating. A variation on the above preschool Halloween game is to have a trick-or-treat candy hunt. As with the witch's hat hunt, place candy in plastic containers (eggs or small bags or boxes) and hide them in the playground or play room. Remember, if you are placing the candy in bags, you want to make sure that the weather is good if you plan to hide the candy outside. Giving each child a small Halloween bucket or treat bag, have them hunt for the hidden candy. Make sure that each child finds some candy (adults may need to help children who are having difficulty finding the items). Halloween is a fun time, especially for children. Your toddler can have a great time with his or her fellow preschools through these preschool Halloween games. As with all games and activities for young children, make sure they are safe as well as fun. Have a spooky good time!
