Romantic Proposals - Inspirational Ideas and Tips

Over the years, many movies have been made of unusual romantic proposals, yet when you try to recreate that, it sometimes falls flat.

This is because we spend so much time planning every little detail and we forget that the proposal is about the way we feel.

A romantic marriage proposal needs to be heartfelt and full of emotion, not just for the person you are proposing to, but for you as well.

The traditional way is to make a dinner reservation at your favorite restaurant, one that you don't go to often, or even one that has a reputation as an "engagement restaurant". Ambience is the key to choosing the right restaurant for romantic proposals, so you want to look for real flowers on the table, soft candle light, and romantic music.

Arrange with the restaurant owner to subtly place the ring either in a pudding or a glass of champagne; if you are nervous about the ring getting lost, then you can tie a gold or silver ribbon around it to make it more visible.

Plan a romantic weekend getaway at a sophisticated up market hotel and spend the weekend ordering room service and watching romantic movies. Arrange with the hotel staff to provide huge bunches of flowers and fruit baskets for the room to create a romantic setting. You can have room service deliver the ring on a silver platter surrounded by caviar and crackers, and to add that special touch, get a violin player to perform while you propose.

When writing your romantic proposal, spend some time thinking about the qualities, characteristics and personality that attracted you to the person in the first place. It might be a special saying that always makes you smile, or the way they eat their salad that is especially endearing. It can be that some of the qualities that attracted you are the person's vivacious or affectionate nature.

The most important thing that you want to add into your romantic proposal is the way that person makes you feel. Explain the love, companionship and excitement you feel when she walks in the door, or the anticipation you experience while waiting to see her again.

You can also use your romantic proposal to share how you would like the relationship to be in the future. It could be that you want to wake up with her next to you every morning, or that you want to spend the rest of your life getting to know everything about the person.

Print your proposal out on a sheet of paper in case you get nervous and forget some of the things you wanted to say. This is also a perfect gift if you roll it up in a scroll and tie a ribbon around it; you can even slip the scroll into the ring instead of using the ribbon, so that you will be able to read and remember the proposal in the years to come.

Romantic proposals will be remembered for the rest of your lives, so put some extra time, love, caring and compassion into making the proposal heartfelt and emotional.
