Useful ResourcesFirst, you should know that they like cool, dark, damp places and, in the winter, the same places that keep them cool in the summer seem to do really well at keeping them warm. Essentially, silverfish live in the cracks of your walls, in the basement, in the bathroom and the attic. They eat sugar, starch, protein, fungi and mold. In fact, silverfish eat just about anything - from cereal to cotton and everything in between. They like the bathroom because it is damp and warm and, often, mold will grow in places you never even realized existed. However, they love paper and cardboard, so if you have a lot of this stuff lying around, you'll probably find some silverfish in the mix.
Things you can do right now There are some things that you can do right now when it comes to silverfish pest control that don't cost much money or take much time. It does take a little effort, though, and you're going to have to do a little work.
In many cases, silverfish pest control can be very effective when you work to take these steps, but sometimes, you might have to do a little bit more.
Do you really need pesticides? Many professional exterminators will have a really tough time with silverfish pest control, so it's likely that you will too. Poisons and pesticides will only do so much to get rid of your silverfish pests, because this type of bug lives in the places that poisons can't even reach. However, for serious silverfish problems, you might find that using pesticides are helpful in creating a barrier. It should be helpful to know that silverfish pest control can be easier when you know about their weaknesses. For instance, they cannot climb in smooth surfaces. It's this weakness that allows you to find them in places such as the bathtub and sink. You can help to get rid of them by making a silverfish trap out of a jar with double sided tape wrapped around the outside. Leave it open at night and add some bait such as cereal and drown them in soapy water in the morning. You might find that pesticides are helpful with silverfish pest control, especially if you have them in your attic, but in the end, you might also find that you do well when you treat the problem naturally.
