Useful ResourcesThere are a number of light, refreshing appetizers you can serve to your guests while everyone is waiting for the meal to be on the table. Here are some wonderful appetizers you can serve at your next Thanksgiving holiday gathering. Spinach-artichoke dip is an all time favorite Thanksgiving appetizer and easy to prepare. To make a wonderful, hot spinach artichoke dip, gather the following ingredients: one cup chopped spinach (thawed with the water pressed out), 1 1/2 cup thawed artichoke hearts, 6 ounces cream cheese, 1/4 cup each of sour cream and mayonnaise (for added flavor, get mayonnaise with olive oil added), 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (use 3/4 teaspoon if you want a dip with more kick), and 1/4 teaspoon each of salt and garlic powder. Boil the spinach and artichokes in approximately one cup of water until they are tender, and then drain. Warm the cream cheese in the microwave for one minute, then combine all the ingredients and serve hot. This dip can be served on toasted bread triangles, crackers, tortilla chips or pita chips. Deviled eggs also make a wonderful Thanksgiving appetizer. Boil seven eggs until done (you will want to boil at least one extra in the event an egg breaks while boiling; however, you can prevent eggs from breaking during boiling by adding a teaspoon of salt to the water). Cut the eggs in half and scoop the yolks out of the centers, and then place the yolks in a bowl - arrange the egg white halves on an egg dish (found at many stores). Mash the egg yolks and add salt and pepper to taste. Add a dash of vinegar (not much more than 3 to 4 drops) and enough mayonnaise to form a paste. Next, take a decorating tube and put your egg yolk mixture inside. Use the decorating tube to put the yolk mixture in the egg white halves. Place an olive or other garnish on top of each egg and serve. If you are pressed for time, a veggie tray is a wonderful Thanksgiving appetizer. For this, simply cut up carrots, celery, broccoli, and cauliflower and arrange in a circle on a large platter around a large bowl of ranch dressing. You can also add items such as cherry or grape tomatoes, olives or other small vegetables. For an added kick, you can also add cubes of your favorite cheeses, such as cheddar, pepper jack or other cheeses. A cheese ball is also a holiday favorite. For this Thanksgiving appetizer, you will need the following: 12 ounces cream cheese (softened), 1 large jar of dried beef (finely chopped), 2 ounces chopped pimento stuffed green olives, 1 small onion (minced), 1/4 teaspoon Worchester sauce (more to taste). Combine all the ingredients until they are well blended and then mold into a ball. Place it in the refrigerator for approximately 2 hours before serving. After removing it from the refrigerator, transfer the ball to the center of a platter and surround it with different kinds of crackers (vegetable crackers go very well with this recipe). When you are entertaining this Thanksgiving, consider one or some of these wonderful appetizers. With the right starter, your meal is guaranteed to be a success. The right Thanksgiving appetizers will also help your guests stay satisfied while waiting for the main course to be ready.
