Are you looking for some Valentine's Day quotes and love verses?

Some people love Valentine's Day - and some people hate it, saying that it's not a real holiday, just a gimmick thought up by the companies who sell millions of Valentine's cards.

There are others who feel that they have to make some kind of comment about it - some are romantic, some are cynical, and some are funny, but they're all worth reading.

My favorite Valentine's Day quote is by an unknown author who said, "I don't understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine's Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon."

Another love quote by an unknown author, "We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love."

I wish I knew who said, "If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?"

To quote Jay Leno's Valentine's Day quote, "Today is Valentine's Day. Or, as men like to call it, Extortion Day."

As a fan of the TV series, M.A.S.H., I love this quote by Hawkeye Pierce, "Without love, what are we worth? Eighty-nine cents! Eighty-nine cents worth of chemicals walking around lonely."

Jonathan Carroll, "Outside the Dog Museum", writes "You have to walk carefully in the beginning of love; the running across fields into your lover's arms can only come later when you're sure they won't laugh if you trip."

I don't know if Albert Einstein was joking or serious when he said, "Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love." But I'm sure he was joking.

Of course, there are many love songs that you can take excerpts from to use as Valentine's Day quotes - there are many from John Lennon's songs. "Love is a promise; love is a souvenir, once given never forgotten, never let it disappear." And, "Everything is clearer when you're in love." The songs written by him and Paul McCartney are great sources for quotes about love.

How about "All you need is love?" Isn't that one a simply wonderful love quote?

Don't forget the oldies but goodies if you're looking for a quote from a song - think of songs by Cole Porter or George Gershwin, or old rock and roll songs from the Buddy Holly or Elvis era - many of them have the nicest words that you could use for a Valentine's Day quote.

Personally, I think Valentine's Day was invented in its present form by the candy companies, greeting card manufacturers and florists to boost their profits and to make us feel guilty if we don't participate.

As Lewis Black said, "Valentine's Day: the holiday that reminds you that if you don't have a special someone, you're alone." Not the most inspiring Valentine's Day quote, but rather true, don't you think?
