Wedding Invitation Wording Examples - Useful Tips and Ideas

Are you looking for wedding invitation wording examples which you could use?

While some traditions have fallen by the wayside when it comes to weddings, there are many that still continue to live on.

Wording styles in regards to invitations are still fairly traditional, for example, and most of them have to do with proper etiquette. Even if you are having a casual wedding, it still makes sense to follow some of the accepted forms of wording.

Why is this necessary?

For one thing, the wording of a wedding invitation will actually set the tone for the entire wedding. A casually worded invitation, for example, will let guests know that the event is not black tie, that they can expect an affair that isn't too formal, and that the atmosphere will be very relaxed.

However, a wedding invitation wording example that is very formal will let guests know that they should dress in formal attire, that the atmosphere might not be conducive to bringing small children, and that the overall ambience of the affair will be conventional. (This doesn't mean that it still won't be fun, however.)

Whatever wedding invitation wording examples you choose to use, you want your guests to know what kind of wedding they will be attending. It can help them determine what type of clothing they will wear, whether or not they will bring their children, and what they can expect in terms of the reception and ceremony.

Sometimes, the couple chooses to elope and then have a wedding reception afterwards. Or, they choose to make their ceremony private for whatever reasons and to then hold a public reception after the ceremony itself. The right wording will help get this across.

For instance, a wedding invitation wording example of a couple that eloped and then wishes to have a reception later on might read:

On Saturday, June 30, 2009
We slipped a ring on each
other's finger
And made a promise for life...
Join us as we celebrate
now that we're husband and
wife!

You are invited to attend a
reception to honor the
newly married
Lauren and Ethan Combs

At the home of James Robinson
1178 Willis Branch Road
Cleveland, Ohio
on Saturday, October 8, 2009
from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Wording can also be important because it can let your guests know whether or not you wish for children to attend the ceremony and reception.

Usually, guests should be able to ascertain this from the way that the envelope is addressed. For instance, if a wedding invitation wording example reads "Mr. & Mrs. Richard Lytle and Family", then the addressee should know that their children are invited. However, this isn't always the case. Sometimes, guests just assume that their children are invited.

If you truly do not want children at your wedding, then it is acceptable to word the invitation so that it reads "adult only reception" within the content. However, be prepared that some guests might find fault with this and that some people argue that this is not proper etiquette. (It's really debatable.)

If you are okay with children attending, then you do not have to mention this in your invitation, however. For such wedding invitation wording examples, address the envelope to everyone in the household and leave it at that.

If you are inviting single people, or those that are not married but do have significant others, and you are okay with them bringing guests to the event, then this should also be included in the way that you address the envelope. If the couple lives together, then you can address the envelope to the both of them. If they do not, then simply address it to the one that does and then add "and Guest" to the invitation.
